Consultation with Privacy Commissioner

The Office of the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner (Commissioner) has been given authority under section 32 of LAFOIP to offer comment on the implications for privacy protection of proposed program of local authorities. The commissioner can recommend that a board of education (board) modify how it collects, uses, discloses or disposes of information if the board’s practices contravene LAFOIP.

Consultation with the Commissioner is not required but in cases where there are expected to be complicated issues it may be useful to find out the approach that the Commissioner might take. Consultation may also be beneficial in cases where breaches have occurred.

The Commissioner can also carry out investigations with respect to personal information in the possession of or under the control of the board in order to ensure compliance with LAFOIP.
