Disclosure to Media

Invitations to the Media

If members of the media are asked to attend an event at a school, board of education (board) employees should be clear to the media whether or not the school has obtained the consent of students, parents and/or other employees for photographs or interviews.

If the school does not have written consents it should advise the representatives of the media. The members of the media can then take whatever steps they believe are necessary to obtain the consents they require.

Interviews with Students or Parents

The board and its administrators have the right to exclude anyone, including media, from school property. The potential disruptive effect of media presence is sufficient justification for this step.

Employees, students and parents who wish to speak to the media can do so off school property and outside of school hours.
